Biography

Marianne Evelyn Gabriel Faithfull was born on December 29, 1946 in Hamstead, London, England to Eva the Baroness Erisso from Vienna Hungary, and Major Glynn Faithfull who was a spy for the British in WWII. Eventually, when Marianne was young her parents divorced. She went off to live with her mother, and her father founded Brazier's Park, a working community/school for the study of social research, in Oxfordshire, England.
By the time Marianne was a teenager, she was attending school in a convent, but her interest in folk music was brewing. By the age of 17 she was singing in coffee houses, and was dating an artist by the name of John Dunbar. But attending a party with Dunbar would change the path of her life forever.
It was March of 1964, and Marianne was dragged to a party held by Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham, to promote his new talent, Andrienne Posta. Marianne showed up in a pair of jeans and John's button down shirt, thought the guest Mick Jagger, and Brian Jones were bores.
Mick introduced himself by pouring wine down the front of Marianne's shirt. Andrew told her she could be a star with her looks. He was right, petite, with shoulder length pin-straight honey blond hair, big blue eyes, a big chest, and ivory skin she looked like an angel, or as Andrew called her "an Angel with big tits".
Before long, Marianne had recorded her first single, a ballad written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, entitled "As Tears Go By". That single launched Marianne's career as a pop superstar.
In 1965, a pregnant Marianne married John Dunbar in England. A few months later, their son Nicholas was born, but the marital bliss didn't last for long. John's drug use, and his druggie friends hanging around their house all hours of the night was taking a toll on Marianne, who began to retreat to Brian Jones and Anita Pallenberg's flat. While smoking pot and trying on clothes with Anita, her new best friend, she became close with Mick Jagger and from then on they were inseperable.
For the rest of the sixties Marianne and Mick were the hottest couple in London. Although Marianne continued to record and tour, she was mainly Mick's girlfriend. All things came crashing down when cocaine using Marianne miscarried her and Mick's child in 1968, she was 7 months along with a girl, named Corrina. Marianne began using drugs heavily and by 1970 her and Mick had split and she was living on the streets of the tough part of London, a registered heroin addict.
She recorded a few unsuccessful albums, until in 1979, newly married to musician Ben Brierly, Marianne released "Broken English" which was criticaly aclaimed.
Since then she has released many albums, divorced Ben in 1986, and again was married to Giorgio della Terza from 1988 to 1991. Her latest album is called "Kissin Time" which was released in August of 2002. She now lives in Ireland, where she is sober, and has finally found peace and happiness.
